I waited to try this wine. I’d ordered it a while back but after reading the reviews, I was concerned it might be too fruit-bomb-style for me. As more reviews were posted, I noticed the trend kept mentioning the “dust” and since that is such a big draw for me with Rutherford wines…we opened a bottle the other night (and ordered more today).
While it is on the cusp of being fruitier than I like, air gives this wine wings. Just an hour or so in the decanter and it’s tasting at double it price point. Age should serve it well also…I purchased a few bottles to lay down.
We tasted a mix of red and black fruits: raspberry & black currant but we also tasted minerality and the true Rutherford dust.
Currently, Cameron Hughes is my favorite 3rd party négociant. I never worry if the wine taste is going to vary from case to case and CH stands behind their product. All things that are important to me, if I’m going to be a repeat consumer.
So if you’d like to make a holiday wine splurge, and this wine fits your taste profile, it’s a pretty good deal! ($29, but with the Radio Listener coupon code TMOS, this wine is $23.20 and free shipping…and that’s not a bad price at all for a prime Rutherford producer.)
I’d encourage you to go to the chwine.com website and watch the video. Read the tasting notes and the vinification notes. Then you can decide if this wine is one you’d like to try.
And with that, I’m off for a holiday break! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
